2nd year semister 1.

For the first semester of second year we were given a project to take us up to the Christmas break. This brief gave us the freedom to select an item of our own choice to work from. I choose a pocket watch and I chose it for many reasons, its visual and physical appearence and its structure with the interlocking of its workings such as cogs. This item also had a personal meaning as I am intrigued by its facinating engineering and it holds many memories for me as well as being influenced by my workplace. I work in a jewellers where I see alot of repairs on such items. I investigated this item as a whole and then I extracted the cogs which I  worked on as my main focus. I looked at the way they interacted with each other and fit together. I investigated the patterns that I could make out of the shapes intailed in the clock. When working in clay I tried to develope the idea of interlocking through my clay work.
