After christmas we were given an 8 week project entitled 'Portrait-a seting'. Your setting consists of a plate, a drinking vessel (cup) and an implement- all linked to the 'idea' of dining. Your subject matter is an assigned class member. You work in pairs.
For this project I was paired up with Rachel Borland. I did a questionare on her and got each class member to give me 1 work in which the would use to describe Rachel. I also asked her for images of some of her favourite things. Through my research and gathering of information the main words that come to mind about Rachel are : Handmade, Origami, Pattern, Tradition, Folding and Interlocking.

2nd year semister 1.
For the first semester of second year we were given a project to take us up to the Christmas break. This brief gave us the freedom to select an item of our own choice to work from. I choose a pocket watch and I chose it for many reasons, its visual and physical appearence and its structure with the interlocking of its workings such as cogs. This item also had a personal meaning as I am intrigued by its facinating engineering and it holds many memories for me as well as being influenced by my workplace. I work in a jewellers where I see alot of repairs on such items. I investigated this item as a whole and then I extracted the cogs which I worked on as my main focus. I looked at the way they interacted with each other and fit together. I investigated the patterns that I could make out of the shapes intailed in the clock. When working in clay I tried to develope the idea of interlocking through my clay work.
Hi, my name is Caroline Quinlan. I am a 2nd year studient in L.S.A.D studing ceramics. Along with ceramics I take a great interest in making and designing jewellery I would like to incorporate this into my work or take the skills I learn from this course and later incorporate them into jewellery making.
